September 17 marks Constitution Day, the day that we recognize the adoption of the United States Constitution. On this date in 1787 in Philadelphia, the 39 delegates to the Constitutional Convention, including Benjamin Franklin, signed the Constitution in the Assembly Room of the Pennsylvania State House, now Independence Hall. September 17 is also Citizenship Day, celebrating people who have become U.S. citizens.
Constitution Day will be observed on Monday, September 18, 2023 with a special edition of 60-Second Lectures, sponsored by Penn Arts & Sciences. Join us on College Green in front of the Benjamin Franklin statue from 11:50 AM to 12:15 PM, and pick up a free pocket Constitution. We also encourage our campus community to visit the Penn Bookstore’s Constitution Day book display.
